The online collection contains postcards (1933-1945) from the Friedberg Papers. Lillian A. Friedberg (1897-1978) was known for her leadership and participation in community organizations in the Pittsburgh area, such as the Jewish Community Relations Council, National Council of Jewish Women, and Allegheny County Council on Civil Rights, among others.

The earliest postcards, those from the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, depict a world full of promise and prosperity, despite being set during the nation’s worst depression. The later postcards, all pertaining to World War II, tell a much different story through propaganda generated by the British Royal Air Force, French Resistance, and the Nazi regime. Read more...
