Description
Spectators enjoying a baseball game at Forbes Field in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Forbes Field was home to the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1909 to 1970. The field, named for General John Forbes, a British general during the French and Indian War, was originally built on the site of a 1908 football game between Carnegie Tech and the University of Pennsylvania. It was demolished July 28, 1971, and part of the campus of the University of Pittsburgh now stands in its place.
