Description
West Façade, Right Frieze, Life of Christ, Right Side of Right Portal
39: Denial of Peter (?)
(Matthew 26:69; Luke 24:31-35)
Heimann identifies the figure standing at left as the maidservant accusing Peter. (Matthew 26:69) She says the figure sitting at right (bearded, crossed legs) is Peter, bowed in distress (Heimann, p. 88). Houvet identifies it as the disciples returning from Emmaus (Luke 24:31-35). Marriage (Houvet, p. 30) and Houvet (p. 30) say this scene is the two disciples, having returned to Jerusalem, telling the apostles and others what they’ve seen.
At left are figures from:
38: Supper at Emmaus.
At right are figures from:
40: Christ commanding Peter 'Feed my sheep' (?).
