Description
Originally known as the "H. D. Williams," the towboat pictured was built in 1919 in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. The towboat was renamed "I. Lamont Hughes" in 1933 by its new owners, Carnegie-Illinois Steel Company. The towboat was inactive from 1938 until 1940 because its hull was being replaced. The "I. Lamont Hughes" was sold in October 1950 to Crain Brothers, Inc. of Pittsburgh and was renamed "Allegheny."
