Description
The University of Pittsburgh Field House, later named for Pitt chancellor Rufus H. Fitzgerald, was the home to the University of Pittsburgh basketball team. Located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh on the university campus, it was first opened for the 1951-1952 season. It was part of the university’s physical education complex that also included Pitt Stadium, the Trees Physical Education Building, and Trees Field. The final basketball game was played there in March 2003. The general contractor on the Pitt Field house project was the Trimble Company. It was replaced by the Petersen Events Center, which features a 12,500-seat basketball arena.
