Description
Presbyterians in the Emsworth, Pennsylvania, began worshiping in numerous locations prior to the construction and dedication of the Emsworth United Presbyterian Church. In 1865 James Fleming and James Gilleland organized a Sabbath School with local children, which met in an old stone house on Lowery Avenue and Ohio River Blvd. In 1869 Fleming and 28 others became founding members of what was then the Fleming United Presbyterian Church. Following the construction of a chapel on Ohio River Boulevard in 1871, the congregation decided to construct another church on Hiland Avenue in 1893.
