Description
Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “View looking toward West Wall of Room III.” H.J. Heinz and his partner Noble started the business in this house in 1869 where they grated and bottled his horseradish in the kitchen. H.J. Heinz was unwilling to have the house razed and reconstructed, so he hired Kress-Hanlon Company in 1904 to move the structure five miles down the Allegheny River from Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, to the main plant in Allegheny City (currently Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood). In 1952 the house was dismantled and rebuilt in Greenfield Village, Michigan.
