Description
Six Mile Ferry serviced the Monongahela River crossing for the B&O Railroad six miles from the Point in Pittsburgh, before the Glenwood Railroad Bridge was built in 1884 and another Glenwood Bridge was built to carry cars across the river in 1894. The ferry also serviced the end of the H. B. Hays and Brothers Coal Railroad (right background), which serviced the mining operations of the company founded by James H. Hays in 1828 in the Street’s Run area. The I.D. Risher Company owned the Streets Run Mine (right foreground).
