Description
View of the pyramid marking the birthplace of James Buchanan (April 23, 1791 – June 1, 1868), the fifteenth President of the United States. He is the only president who was born in Pennsylvania, and his one term in office directly preceded Abraham Lincoln's service as president. He was also the only lifelong bachelor to serve as president. While in office, he attempted to reach a compromise between the North and the South in order to avoid a civil war but was unable to do so.
