Description
Jamb Statue; Gothic; South Porch, Right Portal, Left JambsLaumer Detail HeadAccording to Delaporte, Laumer was the founder and abbot of the monastery of Corbion in the 6th century. His feast day was celebrated at Chartres on January 19. He was mentioned in the two Chartres Lectionaries, ms. 507, f 61r (10th c.) ms. 500, f 41v (12th c.). He is depicted wearing a monk's habit and holding a book. He is tonsured and has a halo. This statue and the statue of Avit opposite it are generally thought to have been added after the portal was complete. See Williamson, p. 47 for a stylistic analysis of the difference between them and the earlier statues.; South Porch, Right Portal, Left Jambs
