Pillar bas-Relief; Gothic; South Porch- Second Pillar to the RightSouth Face- Virtues and Vices.2: Personification of IndocilityA woman in fashionable 13th century garments (including a tourette and barbette) stands at left. She raises a sword in one hand and with the other, points toward a monk (bearded, holding a book), who stands at right.3: Personification of Gentleness (middle)Gentleness is personified as a seated female figure supporting a shield on which there is a lamb. 4: Personification of Harshness (bottom)At right, a woman sits on an elaborate chair with a footstool. She raises her hand toward and kicks a figure kneeling at left. Clerval describes this as “a woman kicking a servant who kneels before her.”The figures are framed by a triblobed arch with prominent decorations on the barbs of the arch. Above are elaborate crenulated walls, towers and rooftops. Compare to personifications on the voussoirs of the left portal of the North Porch.; South Porch, Central Portal (Last Judgment)
