Description
General; Gothic; North Porch, Central Portal, Trumeau- Anne and the Infant Mary- DetailAnne is veiled and has a halo. The infant Mary (headless) has a halo and holds a book. In 1204, Chartres received the gift of a relic of the head of St. Anne, which was brought from Constantinople. This same subject is in the central lancet below the the Rose Window in the North Transept (Delaporte no. 145, Deremble-Manhes no. 121). Kidson believes that this statue was added somewhat later than the rest of the portal sculpture, and that it is not entirely consistent with the iconography of the portal (Kidson, p. 35).; North Porch, Central Portal, Trumeau
