Tympanum; Gothic; South Porch, Right Portal, Tympanum, Lower Right PanelNicholas anonymously provides a dowries for three indigent girls.Nicholas throws gold through the window of his indigent neighbor to provide dowries so that the neighbor's daughters will not be forced into prostitution. This is a popular miracle. it the subject of a liturgical drama (Tres Filiae) and is shown two of the Nicholas windows at Chartres one is in the nave (Delaporte no. 60, Deremble-Manhes no. 39), the other in the choir (Delaporte no. 27, Deremble-Manhes no. 14). Nicholas (beardless, no halo) stands at left. In his hands are large round objects (sacks of money? pieces of gold?) two of which he is thrusting through a window in a wall that is depicted perpendicular to the plane of the panel. The father, who has a long beard and wears a cap, lies in a bed that is parallel to the picture plane. Behind the bed stand three bareheaded girls who make gestures of distress.; South Porch, Right Portal
