Description
Jambs; Gothic; West Façade, Left Portal - rightmost jamb figure of the left side of the door. This female figure holds a scroll. Her costume is very elaborate, but her head is small - perhaps it has been re-cut. Her hair is in long locks bound in ribbons rather than in the long plaits of hair found on other female figures on the Royal Portal. Above her head is the capital frieze with the Massacre of the Innocents (left) and the Flight into Egypt (right)Note the small figures on the doorpost at right. Heimann believes the top figure, the headless figure with the portable desk on its lap, is the Old Testament Prophet Ezechiel. She state that because Ezechiel was a participant in the Babylonian exile, he was a prefiguration on the Flight into Egypt, which is shown on the frieze above. (Heimann, p. 92); West Facade, Left Portal
